Our basic itinerary for our Yellowknife trip is as follows:
Your cadet MUST be at Edmonton International Airport (EIA) no later than 04:20AM on May 19 with all their kit packed and ready to fly. It is your cadet’s responsibility to check the EIA’s web site for weight and size allowance for carry on and personal luggage. Each cadet is allowed 1 piece of checked luggage and 1 piece of carry-on luggage. Cadets WILL NOT need to bring any uniform parts. Cadets will check in with Squadron staff at the main West Jet departure check in kiosk.
Our flight leaves at 06:30AM. We have to get everyone checked in and through security starting at 04:30AM. If your cadet is late or misses this flight, there is no options of catching a later flight.
Our flight is West Jet WS 238 leaving at 06:30AM going into Calgary. We then leave Calgary at 07:20AM and arrive in Yellowknife at 11:20AM.
Upon arrival, we plan to tour 440 Search and Rescue Squadron as well as Buffalo Airways. Saturday we will tour the Legislative buildings, followed by a tour around Yellowknife with the opportunity for cadets to do some shopping and picture taking.
Sunday we are planning a hike to Cameron Falls, as well as participate in a cultural awareness activity followed by an evening barbeque dinner.
Monday, we wrap up with a tour of the Prince of Wales Heritage center before boarding our flight and heading home.
We will be taking West Jet WS 3259 leaving Yellowknife at 4:30PM and arriving at EIA at 6:42PM. Parents WILL pick up cadets at the arrivals gate at 6:45PM. Your cadet will need you to be on time as the staff will not be able to stay and wait with them. Staff will need to get home from the weekend and attend to their families/other duties as well.
For EMERGECY contact only, you may reach out to either of the Capt Barr’s personal cell phones while cadets are on their trip. These phone numbers are for emergencies only and not for just calling to see how your cadet is doing on their trip. Please check Google Classroom for the Phone numbers.
Thursday May 18th we will have a Yellowknife Trip briefing for both cadets and parents and we encourage parents to join us at 7:00PM on the stage. Further questions and concerns can be discussed then.
We look forward to seeing you on the 18th,
Terri Barr
Captain
Commanding Officer
P. S. Please check Google Classroom for the Kit List for the trip, please make sure you have when you need for the weekend trip.
